Improving services and sustainability through better jobs and democracy

Public transport is usually defined as transport services that are open to all and operate on fixed routes.
But quality public transport systems need to think about the ‘last mile’ of journeys too — and that means integrating effectively with walking, cycling and taxis.
Taxi services are provided by motorbikes and pedal power as well as by cars. The workers who provide them are often the least well protected, and that can often mean their passengers are not safe and secure either.
So we see taxi services and their workers as part of the public transport mix, and improving their jobs and social protection as part of the campaign for quality public transport.
