Employers and unions make joint plan to increase women’s transport employment

The International Public Transport Association and the European Transport Workers’ Federation (ETF) this week signed a landmark agreement with the aim of strengthening women’s employment in urban public transport. 

In the presence of Isabelle Durant, Vice President of the European Parliament, UITP and ETF signed a series of joint recommendations. Women are particularly under-represented in leadership and technical positions,.

At present women represent on average about 17.5% per cent of urban public transport employment in Europe. The aim of the agreeement is to increase that to at least 25% by 2020 and at least 40% by 2035. More
